Hi Everyone, Can you believe it is already March? This is a time to kick back, relax and watch
spring come into full bloom as the winter days come to an end.
I love St. Patrick’s Day. I am part Irish on my dad’s side and part Italian on my mother’s side of the family. Our family has always celebrated this holiday in style.
My grandfather, Vincent was born on March 17th. We would have the biggest party each year and celebrate a man we all loved and treasured. I truly came to love this holiday because my family made it a big tradition each year. My grandfather would play the piano and we would all sing “When Irish Eyes are Smiling” and do a little Irish jig.
My family knew how to give a party filled with fun and love. I encourage all parents to make this a day fun for your kids with “kiss me I am Irish” buttons, green cup cakes and even green lemonade.
This is a day to be joyous, feel luck and don’t forget to wear a pinch of green or you might get pinched yourself. Even if you’re not Irish it is a day for everyone to enjoy.
This is also a great time to begin your spring cleaning. You have several months of spring to clean and organize but there is no time like the present to get started.
Do a little every weekend while the weather is cool. To help inspire you, we have some spring cleaning tips in our upcoming newsletters with helpful hints to help you around the house.
I know I promised you all pictures of my three cats this newsletter, but my Bombay cat, Sara has been under the weather and could not make the photo shoot. So, you will see them in our Easter newsletter.
Have a fun this March. Get out and enjoy the spring-time weather. Heck, go fly a kite, this is the windy time of the season and it’s great fun for kids of all ages. Until next month, may the luck of the Irish be with you!

Springtime is here and that means it is time to bring that lighter, brighter feeling of a renewed season into the house.
Here are seven simple ideas to make any home feel refreshed and ready for spring time entertaining.Smell of Spring
Create a little natural aroma therapy. Go out to the garden or look in potted flower pots, chances are there are flowers and leaves that can be used to make homemade potpourri. Gardena’s and roses are ideal, as are any variety of herbs. Skins from fruits like oranges and lemons are wonderful. Use them dried out in potpourri or try simmering in water on the stove for a 15 minutes. On a safety note, make sure to watch the water and added petals, fruit skins and herbs as needed. The sweet smells will bring the scents of season indoors.
Quick Kitchen Tip: Take old lemons, limes and oranges and use them in your kitchen garbage disposal drain. It will make your kitchen smell clean.
Outdoors on Display
Looking for art without spending a lot of cash, it can be found in the backyard. Utilize leaves, flowers and twigs and place them in a glass frame to create original artwork with a springtime twist. To give the artwork a clean look with a designer flair mount florals on rice paper.
Drying flowers and plants is easy. Simply set the flowers in the warm, dry air; preferably a dark area. Place florals on a wire racks or simply tie with string and hang upside down. The darkness helps preserve the color. Flowers dried in this manner should be cut just before fully blooming. This is one of the oldest and most uncomplicated methods. Not only does outdoor-inspired art look great, it is also fun to make.
Great Indoors
There are so many ways to bring the garden inside. New plants can be started from cuttings of old plants. A favorite outdoor plant can be transplanted into a pot and brought indoors. Make sure to do a little research before moving a plant from the ground indoors. Some plants are more sensitive and it may not be recommended.
Why not start an herb garden in the kitchen? Pick out a decorative canister or pot and add things like: thyme, oregano, mint, rosemary, and sage. They are tangy, aromatic and fresh herbs are great for adding flavor to your dishes
Quick Pet Lover Tip: Bring the indoors in for cat pet by planting catnip indoors. It is aromatic and is a “purrfect” way to please the family pet.
Plant Life
Love the idea of plants, but aren’t so good at keeping them alive? There are places where you can find preserved trees and flowers that look like the real thing. Look online or in the area for places like AlivePreservedPlants.com. They have real plants that have been preserved and offer the texture and even scent of the plant but don’t require any maintenance so they will add life to your home year round.
Add a little more panache to your plaint life with fluttering butterflies. They are all the rage in fashion and will be hot well in to winter décor. Nature and technology have merged to produce a realistic collection of electronically moving butterflies. The robotics creatures provide an allure that fascinates and keeps people wondering if they are real or not. They are available online at places like African-butterfly-home-decorating.com.
Paint in the Season
In a room needs a little lift, pick out a favorite color from the garden and bring it indoors. For example, if yellow daisies evoke the feeling of spring pick one from the garden and take it to a local paint center. They can color match the petals to create a natural color for the home. Painting is simple and one of the most affordable ways to spruce up a home.
Picture Perfect
Want original artwork that doesn’t cost a fortune? Simply go outside or to a local garden/arboretum with a camera. Take the selected snap shots to a local print shop like Fed-Ex Kinko and have it blown up the desired size. You can have it mounted on canvas or on something inexpensive like gator board. If there are little ones around, the artwork can be laminated to easily wipe away sticky finger marks.
Quick tip: Heavy Velcro can be used to mount lighter artwork, like photos mounted on gator board. It makes adjusting and changing out the art quick and easy.
Spring Décor
When spring comes many get the urge to redecorate but are budget minded. There are simple things that can be done to give a fresh look to any home. Add pillows with spring flair and colorful soft throws. Need more seating for spring parties, bring a garden bench inside and add soft pastel cushion. Take down heavy, dark drapes and put up pretty white sheer fabric to lighten the space and let the sunshine into the room.
During the spring, the key to updating a home is to make it have a lighter feel. Get rid of any excess junk and brighten up the space with brighter décor. No matter what your budget, you can bring spring in; all that is needed is a little creativity.
