Susie Homemaker’s Valentine bedroom makeover

Susie Homemaker is dealing with a Tiny room with Tall 12 feet ceilings. Susie Homemaker’s design challenge for this room is one to many to name. This is supposed to be a master suite but the builder failed to make a master suite size room. Is Susie’s job to make this pint size bedroom into a dream master suite can she do it?.

Susie is also dealing with 12 feet high ceilings and another big wall with windows and a door on 3 walls leaving little wall space to work with. Talk about a nightmare room to design.

Did you ever ask your self what the builder was thinking?  Why would a builder make the master bedroom so tiny?  Well that is the case with this room the size of this room is small box. This room as no storage the room is just box and very little places to function in a room like this.

Wall One

Wall1

Our dilemma :This wall was a big dilemma take a look at the door on the left and then to other door opened onto this wall leaving very little room to do anything with this wall.

The Solution: The color Susie selected for this room is a rich Moroccan Brown with a small room you want to give the room a rich and elegant feel the old wise tale to go lighter does not pertain to every room. Once again because the room has crown molding, we didn’t need to paint the ceiling.

Next, I left the flat TV up and added a sold dresser under the TV. This makes the TV look more like a picture and frames the wall .I added Moroccan style accessories to add to the romance of the room.

Wall Two

wall 2 before

Our dilemma: When looking at this wall once again the French doors are place on this wall leaving Susie little room to put a bed on this wall. The tall ceilings and small box feeling room make the room cold and claustrophobic.

The Solution: Looking at what we did is shocking in this room we added KING size poster bed in this tiny box room, the key to why this worked in this small room is the head board, the head board and post of the bed draw your eyes up to the high ceiling and fill the space. Then I added a warm color rug on this cold floor so the homeowners wave warmth on their feet.

Next, I added couture neutral fabrics with different style of textures and colors by Peacock Ally and Plumier a Bay this ads romance in this room. Key here is I used an ornate style of furniture with a rich stain and kept the fabric and the walls very simple and soft colors this tricks the eye that room is bigger then what it truly is. Keep it simple with fabrics in small room and use the heavier pieces of furniture to fill the room.

Wall Three

wall 3 before

Our dilemma: Once again here is another room with a wall of windows. Remember this is a master suite and the windows get that morning sun beating down into the room. This wall of windows as doors on both sides of the wall this is a very hard space

The Solution: Take a look at this tall Armoire. I put it in front of the windows to block all that light from coming on the room this also give more storage for the homeowner who had no place for their clothes.

Next, then I framed the rest of the windows with heavy drapes. Here is a professional trick to blocking light onto a room. I used drapes with black out fabric behind it. This acts as both installation to keep the room cool or warm and blocking light and the drapes look fashionable all at the same time.

The goal when dealing with a small space with tall walls and ceilings is to use heavy furniture and soft colors.  All our furniture was found at my best-kept secret place to shop 75% high end products The Dump!
This room is rich decedent and romantic a place anyone would love spend with their Valentine.
